Do You Struggle with Your Past?
Does guilt weigh you down? Are there memories that refuse to leave you alone?
You're not alone.
Paul reminded Titus:
"For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another." (Titus 3:3)
God Never Wastes Your Past
We all have regrets. We've all made choices we wish we could undo. Yet, even though we know we've been forgiven, it's easy to be too hard on ourselves, clinging to regret and shame long after God has removed them.
I don’t like thinking about my past mistakes. I have plenty of them. But one thing I’ve learned is this: God never wastes our past.
Those memories—painful as they may be—can serve a purpose. They remind us of how far we’ve come. They shape us into more compassionate, grace-filled people. They teach us to lean on God rather than our own strength.
3 Truths to Remember When Guilt Won’t Let Go
If your past still haunts you, here’s what you need to remember:
- Guilt isn’t meant to stay. It’s meant to lead you closer to God, to repentance, and to healing.
- Your past isn’t who you are. Who you were is not the same as who you are now in Christ. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
- God can use even the worst parts of your past for good. “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.” (Romans 8:28)
That’s something to be thankful for!
What If You Can’t Move On?
But what if those thoughts keep coming back? What if no matter how often you process them, they still haunt you?
That’s unhealthy—and you don’t have to go through it alone.
If that’s where you are, I want to encourage you: healing is possible. God offers peace. And sometimes, we need a little help getting there.
If you're struggling, let’s talk about it in the comments, or message me. You don’t have to fight this battle alone.
Your past doesn’t get to define you anymore. Christ already has.
